We have at last recovered from the mad blitz that was our second visit to the San Antonio Cocktail Conference — and a nasty sinus infection for one of us! — and we’re happy and excited to share our highlights from this year’s proceedings. Read on!
1. The Drinks at SACC … and Beyond!
There are just too many to name them all, but between the Vieux Carré* at Jeret Peña’s The Last Word, the Brandy Alexander at The Esquire Tavern (congratulations again, Zulco, on your Speed Rack Dallas win!), and the incredibly genius Old Fashioned variant that mixologist and spirits label owner Jason Kosmas demonstrated in his class using single malt scotch (spoiler: it wasn’t just a simple spirit swap), I got to learn about, try, and occasionally even make, a wonderful assortment of different examples of both modern and classic cocktails. For someone who always identified as a beer guy, I’ll actually order a cocktail about a third of the time, now. I’ve even learned to appreciate vermouth … No small feat!
